OBJECT:
To find out the silt content in given sample of fine & coarse sand.
APPARATUS USED: 250ml measuring cylinder, common salt
Used Material: Fine sand & Coarse sand
PROCEDURE: (i) Take about 100gms sand containing some% of silt.
(ii) Fill the sand in measuring cylinder. Put one tea spoon of common salt in order to make in alkaline.
(iii) Water is filled in the cylinder and it is vigorously mixed by making it upside down. Keep the cylinder in standstill position and allow the sand to settle down for some time.
(iv) After some time, two different layers constituting of sand and silt are formed while clay will remain in suspended form. Record the height of silt level H1 and height of the sand level H2 and calculate the percentage of silt content.
(v) Repeat the process to get the average
value.
