ACCIDENTS
AND SAFETY IN CONSTRUCTION AND ACCOUNTS
CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS: The causes
of accidents are broadly classified as under:
1.
Physical
Causes: - The physical causes responsible for
accidents are as follows:
(i)
The working space on the machine
being less obstructs free movement of worker and material.
(ii)
The machine being not properly
adjusted and machine being unsuitable for the job.
(iii)
Electric motor on the machine not
properly insulated.
(iv)
Tools being brittle may break
suddenly, e.g, blades on a sawing machine.
(v)
Tools being blunt (means DHAR KAM HONA) and
worn (means Ghisa hua) out due to constant use.
(vi)
Tools used being too small for
the job.
(vii)
The materials being inflammable,
e.g, use of explosives and petroleum products etc.
(viii)
The brittle material not handled
with care.
(ix)
The material being too hot, e.g,
bitumen and tar in road construction.
(x)
Dress being loose. The sleeves of
the shirt being without buttons.
(xi)
The shoes being loose and
slippery.
(xii)
The floors being slipeery.
(xiii)
Poor lighting conditions.
(xiv)
Poor ventilation and unhygienic
conditions.
(xv)
Loose electric cables and live
conductors.
(xvi)
Building used being unsafe and
use of unstable and unsafe ladder.
(xvii)
External noises and disturbances.
2.
Physiological
causes: The main causes of accidents are as:
(i)
A driver while driving a vehicle
may not be able to see the obstacle ahead clearly, especially when the light is
dim.
(ii)
A tired worker loses control over
his limbs and may meet with an accident.
(iii)
A worker under the influence of
intoxicants like wine loses control over his limbs.
(iv)
A handicapped person has more
chances of meeting with an accident.
(v)
A man with poor health gets tired
soon and sometimes a worker does harm to his body while doing a job which is
beyond his capacity.
3.
Psychological
Causes: The
main causes of accidents are as:
(i)
Mental tension is caused due to
strained relations with superiors or co workers and one loses control over
mind.
(ii)
A highly emotional man loses balance
of mind quickly.
(iii)
A person, who gets nervous in a
particular situation, loses control over his limbs.
(iv)
Over confidence many a times
causes an accident.
(v)
A careless worker meets with an
accident more often than a conscious
(SATARK AUR JAGRUK) worker.
