ORGANIZATION OF ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: - The Engineering department of the Government is responsible for the construction and maintenance of public works such as buildings, roads, bridges, culverts, canals, public health engineering works, production and distribution of electrification work etc. The engineering departments are therefore known as Public Works Departments (P.W.D). The following are different engineering departments dealing with the different branches of works.

1.     Public Works Department Buildings and Roads Branch (P.W.D. B & R): - It deals with the buildings, roads, bridges, culverts and other connecting works etc.

2.     Public Works Department – Irrigation Branch: - It deals with the construction of dams, head works, canals, cross – drainage works, drains and other irrigation projects.

3.     Public Works Department – Public Health Engineering Branch: - It deals with the installation of water supply works and sanitary works etc.
